2024 Rules of Netball Resources

Equal opportunity, fair play and respect for an opponent’s skill and safety.

Those are the core values that the Rules of Netball are based on.

To respect these values, it is the responsibility of:

  • Players to make sure they are physically and technically prepared to play the game, comply with the rules and take part safely and

  • Coaches or teachers of the game to make sure that players are prepared in way that complies with the rules, as well as having an understanding of sporting behaviour and safe practices.

  • Umpires to apply the rules of the game with impartiality, fairness and consistency.

  • Controlling bodies, at all levels, to make sure the game is conducted and developed in accordance with disciplined and sporting behaviour.

In addition to the above core values, all people who engage in netball in NSW are required to comply with the Netball NSW Codes of Behaviour Policies

Rules of Netball 2024

In December 2023 World Netball (WN) has launched the Rules of Netball 2024 Edition, along with free educational rules resources. The new rules will come into play for all international matches from the 1st January 2024.

In NSW all Netball Associations will start using the new rules as their 2024 competitions commence and everyone in NSW needs to have adopted the new rules by September 2024.

Educational Resources to help you understand the new rules.

The rules changes focus specifically on player safety and game management along with clarification and streamlining of existing rules such as contact and advantage.

The layout of the Rules has also been updated to simplify and encourage use by all of the Netball Family, not just umpires.

You can also download the Rules of Netball App for free via Apple or Google Play Stores.

Educational Resources

To ensure that all members of the Netball Family are educated on the new rules of netball, WN, in collaboration with NetFit, have created educational resources, including videos and PDFs, detailing these changes.

There are 12 videos you can watch to help you understand the new rules and how they apply. You can find these videos here.

12 Fact Sheets have also been created by World Netball to help you understand the new rules.

It will take a little bit of time for us all to get used to the rule changes, but just remember we are all learning these at the same time. All our Member Clubs and Port Stephens Netball Association are here to help you adjust to the new rules.
