Netball NSW Annual Awards
Last night at the Netball NSW Awards night held at the Bankstown Sports Club, Sophie Bradbery from the Port Stephens Netball Association was honoured with the Community Volunteer of the Year Award.
Why this is such a meaningful achievement
Sophie coordinates our annual Mental Health & Well-Being Round in memory of Nicholas Johnson, who tragically passed in 2022.
Through Sophie’s leadership, our netball community has raised over $20,000 for mental-health and well-being causes including Talk2MeBro (2024-25) and Jupiter Australia (2025) as well as UMatter awareness in 2024.
Sophie exemplifies the best of community sport: she drives conversation, creates connection, and uses netball as a platform to support mental health and wellbeing.
From all of us
Thank you, Sophie, for your unwavering commitment, compassion and the positive impact you bring to our region and our sport. You have made a difference well beyond the court.
Let’s all celebrate Sophie’s achievement and keep building an inclusive, supportive netball community together.
We can't wait to see this round again in season 2026.

Congratulations is also given to all eight persons from around NSW who were nominated in this category.
The decision for judges was so tight this year, that Sophie was awarded this honour jointly with Julia Morrisey from Bathurst Netball Association for her work in driving inclusion All Abilities program in season 2025 and for doubling their 2024 membership numbers in season 2025.
Both Sophie and Julia were deserving winners of this category.
