June 2026

Port Stephens Netball Association (PSNA) Council met Wednesday 17 June to discuss several important matters relating to our Association, member experience and upcoming events.

Planning Ahead for 2027

Council discussed a Notice of Motion proposed for a one-off change to the timing of the Association's 2027 Annual General Meeting.

The proposed change would enable the AGM to be held in February 2027, allowing the incoming Executive Committee to prepare for an earlier competition season. This aligns with Netball NSW and Netball Australia's planning ahead of the 2027 Netball World Cup, which will be hosted in Sydney from 25 August 2027. Netball NSW has requested that Associations where possible finish their netball seasons ahead of the Netball World Cup commencing.

The motion will be formally considered at a Special Council meeting, ahead of the August Council Meeting.

Sub Committee Update

Council formally endorsed the appointment of:

  • Cherie Edwards as Umpires Convenor

  • Katie Knight as Boys & Men's Convenor

These appointments strengthen the Association's volunteer leadership team.

Vacancies remain for:

  • Competitions Convenor

  • Coaching Convenor

Members interested in contributing to the Association are encouraged to express their interest.

Member Safety and Respect

The Executive reinforced the importance of maintaining a safe, respectful and inclusive environment across all competitions.

Members are reminded to:

  • Report injuries to the Association as soon as practicable to ensure appropriate records are maintained and insurance processes can be supported.

  • Respect all umpires, volunteers, players and spectators.

  • To seek assistance to address inappropriate sideline behaviour by seeking assistance from an Executive Committee member.

The Association continues to work proactively to promote positive behaviour across all levels of competition.

Blue Band and Green Band Initiatives

Council acknowledged the successful introduction of two important inclusion and safeguarding initiatives:

Blue Band Initiative

  • Supports players with disability by identifying participants who may require reasonable adjustments during play.

Green Band Initiative

  • Identifies umpires under 18 years of age to help promote respectful behaviour and support the development of young officials.

Both initiatives reflect PSNA's ongoing commitment to inclusion, child safety and positive participation.

Netball NSW Strategic Planning

The President recently attended the Netball NSW Presidents' Strategy Forum, where discussions focused on the future of participation in netball across New South Wales.

Key themes included:

  • Increasing participation opportunities.

  • Improving retention of junior and adolescent players.

  • Expanding flexible and social formats of the game.

  • Strengthening coaching development.

  • Creating positive lifelong experiences in netball.

These discussions will help inform future planning within Port Stephens Netball Association.

Representative Program Success

Council congratulated all representative teams and officials on their performances at the Netball NSW Senior State Titles.

A special congratulations was extended to the 17 Years team, who achieved Runner-Up honours, continuing an outstanding record of success for the Association.

Council also acknowledged the dedication of coaches, managers, umpires, volunteers and families who contributed to another successful representative campaign.

Upcoming Events

Several key events are approaching, including:

  • Netball NSW Schools Cup – July

  • Indigenous Round – 18 July

  • Association Gala Day, with entries nearing capacity

  • Upcoming Koori Gala Day (date to be confirmed)

Members are encouraged to support these events through participation and volunteering.

Competition Review

The Association will shortly distribute a member survey seeking feedback on competition structures, scheduling and participation opportunities.

Feedback from members will assist Council in shaping future competitions to best meet the needs of our growing netball community.

Port Stephens Netball Association thanks all clubs, volunteers, officials, coaches, players and families for their continued support and commitment to creating a positive, inclusive and enjoyable netball environment for everyone.
